Rare Instances of Mullah Nasreddin Transferred to the Museum of History of Azerbaijan
The Museum of History of Azerbaijan received copies of the satirical magazine Mullah Nasreddin, published in 1908-1909.
According to the official website of the museum (http://www.azhistorymuseum.az/index.php?mod=5&id=703), an engineer from Washington, Farhad Mammadov donated the exhibits.
These specimens belonged to a prominent representative of the local intelligentsia in the early 20th century and at the time of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (AHP), ethnographer and economist Mamedhasanbek Baharly.
This scientist and public figure, was shot in the purges of 1937. After the death of Baharly his entire library with the artistic legacy passed to a close relative Mirhasanu Hasanov, and from there - to grandson Farhad Mammadov.
The magazine Mullah Nasreddin published intermittently in the years 1906-1931 was founded by the Azerbaijani writer Jalil Mammadguluzahed. The graphics were Arabic and the language was Turkic (Azerbaijani). It was distributed by mail to all the Muslim regions of Tsarist Russia, for all the countries of the Middle East, influencing the development of the democratic press in the Islamic world. The journal was published in Tbilisi, Baku and Tabriz and was closed several times. The last and final time due to Soviet censors in 1931. - 17D-
