Why do Russian peacekeepers turn a blind eye to the transfer of weapons by Armenia to Karabakh?
Baku/25.11.22/Turan: "Armenia is transferring military equipment to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent (RMC) is temporarily stationed," First Deputy Head of the State Security Service (SSS) Jeyhun Shadlinsky said at a conference he organized. Shadlinsky also touched upon the measures taken by the State Security Service to suppress the active intelligence activities carried out by the Iranian special services against Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, one of the main topics on the country's agenda is information about the operations carried out by friends of the State Security Service in the NAR.
The political observer Oqtay Gasimov commented on the ongoing events in the program "Difficult Question".
According to him, even when Russia on November 10, 2020, on the basis of a tripartite statement, introduced its military contingent into the territory of Karabakh under the guise of peacekeepers, it did not hide that it had come for a long time.
“Russian politicians, experts, representatives of circles close to the authorities have spoken about this more than once. They said that a military base should be created in Karabakh. Some of them even talked about the need to transfer the territories where Armenians live under the control of Russia,” the observer said.
Gasimov recalled that, approximately 20 days after the deployment of the RMC in Karabakh, a group of terrorists was transferred from the Shirak region of Armenia to Karabakh. It goes without saying that without the knowledge of the RMC, they could not get there.
“And after that, the activities of the RMC in many cases did not correspond to the peacekeeping mission. They were completely indifferent to the fact that the Armenian armed forces were not withdrawn from Karabakh. But on the other hand, they diligently engaged in activities that were completely unusual for peacekeepers - the creation of infrastructure, humanitarian activities, they formed the Russian community, although the Russians in Khankendi could be counted on the fingers,” he noted.
In his opinion, the creation of fortifications by the irredentists with the tacit consent of the RMK, their transportation of weapons in Agdere, Russia's open demonstration of its intentions lately, speak of one thing - it is not for peace in the South Caucasus, but for conflict.
“Without conflict, Russia will have to withdraw its military. And this means losing the remnants of influence in the region. Therefore, it needs a conflict,” Gasimov is convinced. –0—
