At Trial on Journalist Rasim Aliyev’s Death
On March 3, the Serious Crimes Court chaired by Eldar Ismayilov continued the trial of the murder of the journalist Rasim Aliyev.
In the dock are Elshan Ismayilov Jamal Mammadov, Arif Aliyev, Kanan Madatov and Samir Mustafayev.
Today the lawyer Rasul Yusifbayli protecting the interests of the defendant Kanan Madatov asked the court to reclassify the incriminated article 126 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm) to article 307 (failure to report a crime).
Bakhtiyar Aliyev, the lawyer for Samir Mustafayev, asked for justification for his client. However, Rasim Aliyev's family asked the court to make a severe punishment and not to mitigate the charges.
* Rasim Aliyev was beaten by a group of 5-6 athletes on 8 August 2015. The next day he died in hospital from internal bleeding. Who beat him were arrested. The reason for the attack was the criticism of the action of the known football player Javid Huseynov by the journalist on Facebook. The attackers took revenge for the criticism of their friend and relative. The main culprit, Javid Huseynov, is charged with failure to report a planned crime, although the injured party and the colleagues of Rasim Aliyev consider him the organizer of the crime. -16B04-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights.
