Press Review 04/06/2016

A look at the recent clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh, the social situation in the country, as well as problems of mothers and children have become leading topics of today's press.

The Azadlig published an article "Authoritarianism could not kill the national spirit", which says that the 24 years of corruption, lies and flattery were not able to kill the national spirit.

The article said that in contrast to the government, the people actively participated in the funeral of the martyrs. Neither repression nor harassment and pressure, no police regime will ever be able to kill the determination of the people.

The Novoye Vremya, trying to explain the reasons for the beginning of the armed clashes in Karabakh, emphasizes the fact that the Azerbaijani side returned fire after the shelling from the Armenian side. The statements of the Armenian side that the Azerbaijani side started the clashes first are unfounded.

If the negotiation process does not progress, it can intensify military operations that should not please either Russia or the West.

The Yeni Musavat writes about the arbitrariness of commercial banks. The economist Akram Hasanov believes that it is necessary to stop issuing loans in dollars. Commercial banks use loopholes in the law and mend arbitrariness. They take loans from the National Bank in manats and then transfer the money into foreign currency and issue the loans to the public.

The Bizim Yol published an article in which it argues that in recent years hundreds of mothers and babies died in childbirth. The article says that in the statistics of international and local departments there is a big difference.

The Commission for Maternity Aid at the Ministry of Health notes that in 2015 during the birth 23 mothers died. However, the WHO states that there were 48.

In 2014, for the deaths of mothers and newborns, 42 medical staff members were brought to administrative punishment, and 13 doctors were dismissed from their jobs.

Medical examinations associate maternal mortality during childbirth with problems in the mothers’ health. However, statistics show that the culprits are often the doctors and obstetricians.
