Defence Ministry of Georgia wants ceasefire in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan
Defense Minister of Georgia Tinatin Khidasheli in a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts expressed concern about the escalation in the conflict zone, and expressed a hope for an early cease-fire, according to the Georgian Defense Ministry.
If possible, Georgia should play the role of mediator in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, reports the words of Chief of General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces Vakhtang Kapanadze, Georgia Online website.
Kapanadze explained that Georgia is one of the countries that has good relations with both sides in the conflict.
"Unfortunate it was impossible to solve the problem peacefully for several reasons. It is a painful process for the entire region. So we are very closely monitoring the events. We have a very close relationship with our colleagues in Azerbaijan and Armenia, we have complete information," Kapanadze said and expressed hope that the parties will be able to translate the situation into a peaceful phase, and a cease-fire.
However, according to Kapanadze, parties to the conflict have not addressed to Georgia with a request, but, according to him, both sides are trying to inform Tbilisi as much as possible on the events.
"Of course, each side has its vision. We are trying to be more objective in the estimates," said Kapanadze.-0-
