Media Review for January 24, 2020
Aliyev’s meetings at the Davos Forum, the contribution of the Stock Exchange to the development of the country, and the situation in the taxi service are the topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the meetings and conversations of President Ilham Aliyev at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The meetings highly praised the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan, the country's readiness for the 4th industrial revolution, and the improvement of the investment environment.
The website Bizimyol-info.az discusses with the expert Rovshan Agayev the formation of the stock market in the country. The article provides a statement by the head of the Central Bank, Rustamov, about the need for “pioneer companies” to form the stock market.
The expert doubts that with the economy as closed as possible, the activity of the institution is possible, requiring maximum openness, transparency and how realistic this is in Azerbaijan.
In developed countries, it is on exchanges that exchange rates are formed. After the creation of a stock exchange in Azerbaijan, the Central Bank will not be able to regulate the national currency, the expert said.
The website Yeni Sabah.az discusses the situation in the taxi service system. Experts emphasize that taxi drivers often require too big payments for their trips, especially for tourists who have arrived in the country. Experts consider the need to create a unified payment system and the Tariff Council should establish and approve payment per kilometer.
In the presence of the Baku Transport Agency, there is no structure controlling the activity of taxis. The expert also recalled the existence of a law according to which taxis can be yellow, lilac and white. However, no one pays attention to this.
