Baku/23.04.18/Turan: A sentence was sent to the group of former high-ranking officials of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) abolished at the end of 2015 at the Baku Military Court. The former head of the department, General Subakhir Gurbanov, was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Colonel Fizuli Aliyev was also sentenced to 14 years in prison. General Teymur Guliyev received 12 years. Senior officers Zaur Mammadov and Natig Aliyev received 10, 5 years of imprisonment. Farhad Atayev was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on probation, and released in the courtroom. General Natavan Murvatova was sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment. Elshad Azizov, Eshgin Aliyev and Anar Shiraliyev were sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment conditionally. In October 2015, after the release of the head of the Ministry of National Security, Eldar Mahmudov, personnel purges began in this department. Military expert and regular on state television channels, Adalat Verdiyev, has been accused of a serious crime—disclosure of military secrets. According to the charge (Article 308 of the Criminal Code), if the accused can prove the disclosure was unintentional, they may face 3 to 7 years in prison.
