Media Review July 15, 2019

The decline in the role of oil in the economic development of the country, the discussion of personnel changes, the reasons for Russia's refusal to accept goods from Azerbaijan are the topics of today's media.

The newspaper "Azerbaijan" writes about oil and the impact of its pricing policy on Azerbaijan. The pricing policy for oil has negative consequences, and strike the economy of the country and its development. The author notes the need to withdraw the country's economy from oil dependence. According to statistical data, growth in the non-oil sector is registered at 24%, including 18% in agriculture, in the field of tourism, communications and other industries by more than 10-13%,

The site "Ovqat.com" discusses how much recent personnel changes can be called reforms. The expert Ilyas Ismayilov believes that appointment of Vilayet Eyvazov instead of Interior Minister Ramil Usubov is just replacing an aged man with a more dynamic and younger one. According to him, the need to change the head of the State Security Council was because the geopolitical struggle between Russia and the United States is approaching the South Caucasus, and tensions between the United States and Iran increase. Azerbaijan is on the path of powerful oil and gas projects, so they decided to entrust this service to a more professional person. The change of the heads of executive powers of the cities located in 11 km from each other cannot be called reforms. Only changes that can change something in the country can be called reforms.

The newspaper Yeni Musavat discusses the issue of the return of goods from Azerbaijan by Russia. The Dagestan branch of Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of 32 tons of tomatoes, 53 tons of cherries, 20 tons of peas, 13 tons of strawberries, and 118 tons of other agricultural products belonging to Azerbaijan. The reason is the detection of pests, however, many experts are looking for bias in Russia's actions.

Expert Nijat Nasirli believes that Russia is not at a time of bias, it is actually taking these steps to protect the phytosanitary situation in a country where more than 200 million people live. There is one more thing, there are many who want to seize the Russian market, as well as the need for Azerbaijani goods. Often, products imported from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are presented as the Azerbaijani goods, and successfully sold. Experts believe that it is necessary to look for new markets for these products. -0-
