Khadija Ismayilova about Portrait of Female Prisoner
“They put a flower and a chocolate bar in the cell. That's how the Prison Service congratulated three women held in jail on March 8.” The journalist Khadija Ismayilova imprisoned in Kurdakhani wrote this in a letter to Radio Azadlig.
In her view, Prison Service should otherwise congratulate women, publishing statistics of prosecuting women.
Ismayilova describes a portrait of female prisoner this way:
a) in the southern region - mostly convicted under Article 234 (illegal drugs)
b) convicted of early marriage and crimes committed through negligence;
c) women urged to crime by men;
d) prisoners of love and jealousy.
According to Ismayilova, Azerbaijani women are mainly in prison for the crime points A and B.
Ismayilova investigated these topics at the time. "While 20 years ago, we journalists wrote about the problems of the southern region and early marriages, the current results are objective," writes Ismayilova.
According to her, now these same problems are typical for the northern region, and soon they will spread across the country. -03D06-
